Conventional sunflower oil is rich in linoleic acid and has an iodine value of about 120–140, so its methyl ester needs blending and antioxidant to meet EN 14214. High-oleic oil has an iodine value nearer 80–90 and produces a more oxidation-stable ester. Specify which type you need, as mixed lots are hard to predict.

Yes. The waxes in crude sunflower oil crystallise slowly when the oil or ester cools, causing haze, filter blocking and tank deposits. Cooling and filtering the oil in pretreatment, or distilling the ester, removes them. A cold test or wax limit in the specification helps you anticipate the load before the lot arrives.

Technically yes, once phosphorus and metals have been reduced to low mg/kg levels, and its C18 chains convert well into diesel- and jet-range paraffins. As a crop-based oil, however, it is excluded from the ReFuelEU Aviation SAF obligation and capped under road-transport rules, which limits its regulatory value.

It is a food and feed crop oil, not listed in Annex IX. Fuels made from it count only within each Member State's crop cap and do not count towards the EU SAF obligation. Confirm the treatment in your market and the certificate scope for the lot with your certification body before contracting.

Commonly up to about 1–2 % expressed as oleic acid, depending on seed quality, storage and the crushing process. Lots at the lower end suit direct alkaline transesterification after degumming and drying; higher values may require neutralisation or esterification first.
